Fishsonas - Blob

Mitchell Cawley

Info

“Adaptation is just gains you didn’t expect.”

A deep-sea reverse mermaid of blobfish origin known for his obsession with physical training and “embracing pressure.” In the crushing depths of the ocean, Mitchell appears broad, powerful, and almost intimidating — perfectly adapted to the environment he was raised in. At the surface, however, his body loses definition and structure, becoming visibly softer and more fragile.

Mitchell treats this transformation casually, often laughing it off as “just part of the grind,” but his fixation on adaptation and resilience hints at a deeper discomfort with vulnerability, change, and the fear of becoming something unrecognizable outside the conditions he was built for.

He avoids reflective surfaces after long periods spent near the surface.

Personality

Mitchell is energetic, encouraging, and almost impossible to discourage. He approaches life with the mindset of a motivational coach, constantly reframing setbacks as “resistance training for the soul.” He genuinely wants the people around him to feel stronger, safer, and more capable.

However, his relentless positivity often acts as emotional armor. Mitchell struggles to acknowledge situations that cannot simply be “adapted” to, especially when they involve grief, fear, or powerlessness. He tends to redirect difficult conversations into advice or training metaphors rather than confront his own insecurities directly.

Despite this, his kindness is sincere. Beneath the bravado and gym philosophy is someone deeply afraid of becoming weak, dependent, or left behind by a changing world.

Mitchell becomes noticeably quieter whenever discussions turn toward permanent adaptation failure.

Relationships

Mitchell maintains strong ties to his training circle, often referring to fellow deep-sea athletes as a “second family.” These relationships are built on mutual encouragement and shared physical challenges.

FAMILY

Mitchell grew up in an isolated deep-sea settlement where survival depended heavily on physical endurance and environmental adaptation. He speaks proudly of his upbringing and idolizes the mentality of “staying strong no matter the pressure.”

Younger Sibling
Mitchell constantly encourages them to “keep pushing,” though his protectiveness occasionally borders on controlling. He worries they will not be able to adapt as easily as he did.

FRIENDS

Mitchell naturally attracts people through his enthusiasm and reliability. He enjoys group activities, team training, and any excuse to motivate others. Many of his friendships are built around routines and shared goals.

Training Circle
A close-knit group of deep-sea athletes and survivalists who share Mitchell’s passion for endurance culture. He refers to them as his “second family.”
The Player
Initially sees the protagonist as someone who “just needs confidence and a good routine,” but gradually becomes more emotionally honest as their relationship develops.

ENEMIES

Mitchell dislikes cynicism and avoidance more than actual conflict. He becomes visibly uncomfortable around people who openly discuss hopelessness, environmental collapse, or emotional vulnerability without trying to “fix” it.

Surface Pessimists
Mitchell views defeatist attitudes as dangerous, believing mindset alone can overcome most hardship. This belief is repeatedly challenged throughout his route.

Story

The player first meets Mitchell at a recreational training facility designed for aquatic species adjusting to surface conditions. He immediately takes an interest in the protagonist, enthusiastically offering workout advice, encouragement, and questionable nutrition tips.

His route initially focuses on comedy and bonding through physical activities, with Mitchell presenting himself as someone who can adapt to absolutely anything through enough effort and determination. He consistently frames environmental instability and bodily discomfort as temporary obstacles to overcome.

As the relationship deepens, however, cracks begin to appear in that mindset. Mitchell quietly avoids situations where he must remain at the surface for too long, becomes evasive when discussing his own physical deterioration, and reacts defensively when the protagonist suggests that adaptation has limits.

The emotional core of his route centers around the difference between resilience and denial. Mitchell slowly learns that strength is not the absence of vulnerability, and that accepting help does not make him weak.

Route Themes

Environmental adaptation, toxic positivity, body image, emotional vulnerability, resilience versus denial, and learning to exist outside the conditions you were designed for.

SPOILER WARNING

Late in the route, the protagonist discovers Mitchell has been overexerting himself in increasingly dangerous surface training sessions in an attempt to “prove” he can permanently adapt. Depending on player choices, he either learns to value himself beyond his usefulness and physical capability, or doubles down on self-destructive self-improvement.
